Janet’s
versatile voice has enabled her to perform in a variety of styles
both on stage and in the recording studio.
Janet studied at the
Guildhall School of Music and Drama, with M. Paolo Silveri in Rome,
and with Richard Alda in London. She has sung in concert with many
orchestras, at home and abroad. She has been guest artist in concert
with Willard White, Gino Vannelli, Michael Nyman and Michael Ball. She
was guest soloist at “The Cathcart Spring Prom” with the RPO at the
Royal Albert Hall on numerous occasions.
Janet has performed many operatic roles,
most notably the title role in “Carmen”, and made her debut at English
National Opera in “The Bacchae”. She also created numerous roles in
contemporary operas and was a founder member of “Opera Circus”.
Theatre credits include Cosette in “Les Miserables” in the West End.
From 1996 until 2002,
Janet was a member of the popular Dutch group ‘The New London
Chorale’, with whom she recorded numerous albums and performed at all
the major concert venues in the Netherlands.
Janet has performed on many recording
sessions for television, films and radio. She recorded “Carmen”
(title role) for Carlton Records, “Rule Britannia” with the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra for their “Classical Spectacular” series, and
the role of Eloise in “Rage Of The Heart” (a new musical) with Michael
Ball for First Night Records. She is Mariah Carey’s opera voice in the
film “The Bachelor” and the voices on the 2004 “British Airways”
campaign.
In 2002 she recorded the duet “You Don’t
Bring Me Flowers” with Frank Galan for his Sony Music Belgium album “Caricias”.
In 2003 she completed a tour of Scandinavia
with the National Symphony Orchestra called “A Night At The Opera”.
2004 saw the release
of Janet’s first solo album entitled “Secret Love” for BMG
Netherlands. It features songs from stage and film musicals, including
The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Calamity Jane, Finian’s Rainbow and Sunset
Boulevard, with new orchestral arrangements by Steve Sidwell and duets
with Ernst Daniel Smit and Gino Vannelli.
In 2005 she was Tara
Palmer-Tompkinson’s voice on the ‘Walker’s Crisps Opera” advert and
sang on ‘Children In Need’ and “The ‘X’ Factor”.
